Musicians: Tell Us Your Three Favorite St. Louis Releases of 2012
Update: The deadline for entries is Tuesday, November 27 at 5 p.m. We've got some excellent feedback so far, but certainly nothing that resembles a consensus.
Jon Gitchoff People enjoy some St. Louis music at this year's RFT Music Showcase.
Happy Rank Everything Season! Yes, soon you will know the top ten news stories, new bands, political blunders, zoo animals and top ten lists of 2012. And we admit: We enjoy these exercises. Especially when it's something we care very deeply about. So we would like to contribute by constructing a list of the best St. Louis releases of 2012. And there is no greater experts on this subject than the hundreds of musicians in this city who toil all year and spend their paychecks at the doors and bars of the venues throughout this city.
We're turning it over to you: If you are a musician currently living in the St. Louis area, we'd like for you to tell us your favorite three records of the year -- they can be full-lengths, singles, EPs, mixtapes, online-only releases, whatever. If an artist from our city committed it to tape, it qualifies.
Each release you submit will count as one vote -- rankings will be determined by the number of votes each release gets. You may only vote once, though each member of your band is welcome to contribute. Please don't vote for yourself. If you are not in a band, do not submit your picks -- we'll be checking for non-musician votes as well as ballot stuffing, and we've seen every trick there is. So don't bother trying to game the system.
Everyone loves a good list, but the real value here is the context: why an album is so great and the state of the city in which it was released matter more than who eeks out the number ten spot over whoever gets number eleven. So there is also an open space below to submit the reason you love a given release or tell us the thing you feel people need to know about music in St. Louis. If we like what you have to say, we may just publish you here on RFT Music.
Alright. Happy voting, everybody. Tell your band friends.
