Daniel Hill Is the New Music Editor of Riverfront Times

RFT Music has hit the jackpot.

Your new music editor is Daniel Hill, whom you may know from the most entertaining show review published in my tenure, some of the most authoritative writing about St. Louis' musical history we've had or from his fifteen years playing in bands in this city.

As Clubs Editor for the past nine months or so, he's also been very much the co-pilot of the section you've read, keeping me informed about what's happening in St. Louis and on one occasion directly preventing me from getting my ass kicked in an alley. If you like RFT Music now, you're in luck -- he won't miss a beat. If you don't like RFT Music now, you're also in luck, because I have no doubt that he's going to make it even better.

Daniel already knows the ropes around here, but we'll spend the next several weeks working to ease the transition. I leave to take over as music editor at our sister paper, the Dallas Observer, in early January.

The many in St. Louis who have already spent time with Daniel know what kind of man he is: meticulous in his work, open-minded in conversation, kind of spirit and exceptionally quick-witted.

The rest of you will soon know those things too. Say hello on Twitter, Facebook, at daniel DOT hill AT riverfronttimes.com or in the comments below. Or better yet, introduce yourself the next time you see him at a show. I have a suspicion you'll have thousands of opportunities to do just that before it's all over.

Follow RFT Music on Twitter or Facebook.

@iwtas @rftmusic Horse-sized duck! Bring a saddle; domesticate it. Free flying / water transportation. Surprised no one ever thinks of this.

@danielhill314 @rftmusic A horse sized duck wouldn’t be able to fly, according to my (Dave) research.

@iwtas @danielhill314 I would love to know what that research entailed.

perhaps maybe the RFT Music section will not focus on the same exact bands over and over again anymore. all we hear about with local music is the tower groove crowd, which is great, but there's a hell of a lot more to st. louis than that.

Welcome. it is not THE peabody opera house anymore than it was THE kiel opera house.

Whatever they call it, no place in St. louis or the midwest comes close in value-for-the dollar for music. Trouble is only 3 shows in December against 20-30 shows or more in all other downtown performing arts centers. The Fox does 29 this month,, powell 14,  and kiel opera house 3.  No city is more regressed, nor keeps its downtown more regressed.

I have known this SOB for a plenty o years now; he is perfect for this job. I am excited to regularly read this paper again. I expect that I will be wildly entertained.

Congratulations Daniel! You totally deserve it!
