Help Us Select The 2013 RFT Music Awards Nominees

Googolplexia's dance crew from last year's showcase.
It's that time of year again! Each year RFT Music recognizes the hard work and exceptional talent of St. Louis' local musicians with the RFT Music Awards. In addition, our summer awards showcase on Washington Avenue provides St. Louisans a chance to see over 80 of these bands and musicians in action, with sponsorship by loads of local businesses.

We need your help in picking the best bands in the city! Each year we strive to provide a definitive list of the best acts in town, but we can't do it alone. Who are your favorites? What acts in St. Louis do you think deserve more attention? Post them all in the comments below! The only caveat is the band / act must be from the St. Louis region.

The official ballot will be constructed by a panel of experts, but in the meantime we need to make sure that all possible possibilities are considered. Note that this is not a popularity contest, and attempting to "stuff the ballot" at this stage in the game by getting all of your friends to comment with your band's name really isn't going to do anyone any good.

If you would like to be considered as part of the panel, please let us know! If your suggestions are especially thoughtful or demonstrate a strong perspective on some genre or scene, we'd be happy to make you an official part of the nominating committee. Please include your email address in your comment if you'd like to be considered.

If you need a little help getting started, have a look at last year's winners on the next page:

Is this a popularity contest or an award for highly talented, veteran acts? You should nominate Savage Sun. Dude has done it all and everyone from CDBaby to URB Magazine has taken notice, Period. Thank you.

The Glass Cavalry should be considered this year! They've been playing shows all around the St. Louis music scene. March 29th they'll be at Plush, and they'll be appearing at Pridefest this year! Also this year they'll release a new album. They deserve a nomination!

Female Vocalist-Katie Louise

Genre:  You name it.  Her talent covers Rock, Blues, R&B, Soul and Jazz

Band:  She does a piano-vocal duo every Monday night at the 1860 Saloon in Soulard.  In addition she sings on occasion with other groups around town.

Katie is a powerhouse singer who can go from a whisper to roar in nothing flat.  Her talent should have wider recognition.  Here are a few samples of her talent from YouTube

MancusoJazz
MancusoJazz

Vocalist -  Joe Mancuso

Genre: Straight Ahead Jazz

Band:  there is a Joe Mancuso duo, trio, quartet, quintet etc.  I guess you could just call the band "The Joe Mancuso Group" depending on the configuration, or just "Joe Mancuso"

More information at:  http://www.MancusoJazz.com/

There are many videos of his various groups on Youtube, below are links to 3 of them:

I may regret this, because it is so so hard to pick out who's the best in this talented town and I've been nominated (But never won!) so maybe that counts me out anyway...  but I think I'd like to suggest myself for the nominateeing committee.  I've hosted open mic nights for 3+ years,  played a million shows, work at several venues around town, and my boyfriend runs a recording studio out of the upstairs of our house.  So I get to see bands in all stages of development all the time.  I have also been told from time to time I'm not an idoit.  just thought I'd throw it out there.  langenn@gmail.com
