Snarky Philadalephia-based punk rock band the Dead Milkmen will play The Firebird (2706 Olive Street; 314-535-0353) on Saturday, June 8. General admission tickets for the all-ages show cost $20 and are now available through Ticketfly.

This is the first time the Dead Milkmen have played in St. Louis since a 1987 show at the now-defunct Mississippi Nights, though frontman Joe Genaro's various projects -- including his solo act, Joe Jack Talcum -- have stopped through town.

The group reunited in 2008, following a thirteen-year hiatus and the passing of original bass guitarist Dave Schulthise. The current line-up includes original members Genaro, Rodney Linderman and Dean Sabatino, with Dan Stevens of Genaro's project, the Low Budgets, on bass.

According to Firebird owner Mike Cracchiolo, the show is part of a weekend show stint, not an extended tour. And as far as we can tell, based on what we see on the official Dead Milkmen website, this is the first time in a long while that they've left their native East Coast to visit the Midwest. That said, do you really want to wait another 20+ years for 'em to come back?

Drop everything and go tonight.  I saw them last night here in Minneapolis.  Way, way worth it.  They're not some novelty act doing a few shows to make some quick money.  Well, actually that's exactly what they are.  But they're really good, and in great form.  The new bassist is very good, and Rodney, Joe Jack and Dean are at it like they never stopped.  They'll play non-stop for almost 2 hours, which is pretty great for a bunch of guys who qualify for discounts at Denny's.  Bring earplugs; they're loud and my ears still hurt today.  Way too much silly fun for $20.  Go already.  They'll be prompt; warmup will start around 9 and they'll start around 10:15 and play until just about midnight.

The opening act is a little weird and a little loud, but worth watching for sure.  I see it's an all-ages show.  I wish it had been in Minneapolis last night.  I'd have brought my 15 year-old son for sure, and maybe my 13 year-old daughter.  The "F" word gets used, but I think the kids know that one already.  Great fun, great energy, much much silly.

Dec 1, 1990 they were at the Nights for sure. My wife and I saw them there at least a few times, and we didn't get together until mid-1990.

I did not live here in 1987, but I did see them at Mississippi Nights, so I agree they were definitely here in the early 90s.

for all the times they played Miss Nights, I never went, so I'm pretty stoked on this

I definitely saw them at Missippi Nights in high school, so it had to be at least 1991.

maybe I saw them even prior to that... 87? Mississippi nights....

I am pretty sure. My friend Thomas Delgado Jr was in the opening band that night. Hopefully he'll catch the tag and illuminate us. Maybe I'm a crackpot and I'm thinking of someone else, but I'm pretty sure it was DM.

You sure it was the early nineties, Jeff? Our research put their last show at M Nights in 1987.

You know what, Stuart? I like you. You're not like the other people, here, at the trailer park.

They played here at M Nights in the early 90s. Shave five years off of that.

@Amy Foley definitely.  I saw the Dead Milkmen 3 times at Mississippi Nights.  That last time was with my wife (and we had just started dating) so it had to have been the summer of '92.

@RFT Music I found my old ticket stubs today.  I saw the Dead Milkmen three times at Mississippi Nights:  July 10, 1990; Dec 1, 1990 (with Mojo Nixon); and July 31, 1992.
