People Bitching About LouFest: Presented to You by the Internet

This week's LouFest lineup announcement has stirred up a lot of conversation in the city of St. Louis. The festival's new partnership with C3 Presents has served as a lightning rod of sorts: There are those who are excited about the veteran production company's ability to draw some big names, and then there are those who are afraid of LouFest becoming a cookie-cutter festival, indistinguishable from the many other summer events that occur each year.

Another common complaint is that the lineup is too narrow in scope, and that St. Louis' history of diverse musical influences is not represented. Many of these complaints can be filed under the "Haters Gonna Hate" category, but some raise valid points.

Especially when those points are accompanied by a picture of an adorable baby elephant.

Yesterday the Internet graced us all with "People Bitching About Loufest," the Tumblr site which takes social media's complaints regarding this year's lineup and pairs them with adorable pictures of animals. You know, because the internet.

Its proprietors, who at this point remain anonymous, explain their actions in this way:

This is a blog curated a LouFest fan and lifelong St. Louisan who, this year, has been inordinately amused by the complaints about LouFest put forth by their fellow citizens (it's of note that the vast, vast majority of commentary has been positive, however). LouFest is excellent for St. Louis, and so many of us are proud and excited that it takes place each year.

Each baby animal photo features a quote pulled from Facebook, Reddit, or Twitter with the name of the author redacted. Most spelling/grammatical errors have been corrected for comprehension.

Here are a few of our favorite animal/complaint pairings:

It would be very hard to argue that this year's festival covers a broad range of musical styles or represents the Saint Louis musical community in any way. "Cookie Cutter" seems apt, as you could look at the line up and have a hard time guessing which city it was in. People like Bill1, who are into these types of bands, will have a great time.

But, I kinda like the the Saint Louis music scene so no early bird passes for me next year. See you tomorrow on Cherokee smiling in front of Bug Chaser with the rest of the "STL weirdos" or at the Bluesweek Festival, S.L.U.M. Fest, a Whitiker concert, a Compton Heights Concert Band show, RFT Music Showcase, etc.

PLEASEEEEE -- The past loufests have been terrible. The music was awful. I have never seen so many people excited about this one. Not as good a lineup as lollapalooza but we are getting there. Guarantee you the first round of tickets sell out today. Bring bigger names next year and ignore the STL weirdos that exist in this city.

Now that it is moved into September, operate MUNY through Labor Day like a real city would do.

Matt Frederick has also never understood the appeal of puppies, ice cream, chocolate, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, or good scotch. But he likes Astroturf and the designated hitter.

That line up sucks. You won't be able to distinguish the bands and their fans from the homeless. This is Larry Rice's worst nightmare.

or they could call it "i think you just proved why they don't want blacks there because you're all race-baiting douchebags" festival.

Great line up wish I could attend!

Beware of people who constantly repeat their opinions. They are often trying to convince themselves of something that is not true.

I think that this year's lineup is nice. I've never been a fan of going to outdoor festivals (I prefer club and auditorium-type venues), so I probably won't be going. Very happy for KKF and Tef Poe that they got the local artist slots. I never understood the appeal of Wilco, but that's just me ... I gotta have respect for a band with such staying-power. I hope that everybody who goes to LouFest has a great time!

why yeessss st. Louis is a city of diversity I mean we take care of the rock and roll white people, the country white people, the easy listening white people...oh, you meant REAL diversity ...like maybe some groups that are like soul, blues, rap?? oh, nevermind. we don't like THAT kind of diversity in the STL.
