The Ten Best Shows in St. Louis This Weekend: May 31-June 2

Torche - Sunday, June 2 @ The Firebird
Things have been crazy around here, to say the least. I can't say for sure, but I have a theory that music editor Daniel Hill hasn't left the office in days and has only stopped working on the RFT Music Showcase for an occasional George Costanza-style under-the-desk nap. See the fruits of our labor at the Washington Avenue showcase this Saturday, and click through for plenty of other shows happening around town.

Jump over to our Out Every Night post from earlier this week to read about upcoming performances including James Murphy, Gogol Bordello, Bald Eagle at Jack Buck's record release show and Alkaline Trio. Read on for more show-going suggestions for the weekend ahead, below.

Did we leave something significant out? There's a chance it didn't make it onto our radar! Send your show tips anytime to clubs@riverfronttimes.com.

Friday (May 31):

Dave Alvin
w/ Kevin Gordon
@ Off Broadway
8 p.m. | $20
The Grammy-nominated Dave Alvin put in time as a member of X, the Blasters and the Knitters. His solo work has solidified his reputation as a capital "s" Singer-songwriter, with no less than Rolling Stone dubbing his "an under recognized guitar hero" following the release of his 2011 release, Eleven Eleven. (DH)

Dead Confederate
w/ Roadkill Ghost Choir, This City of Takers
@ Old Rock House
8 p.m. | $10/$12
Dead Confederate mixes psych-rock, grunge and alt-country influences to create a truly unique, definitely rock & roll sound. (DH)

Elenowen
w/ Amy Stroup, Fillmore, Under the Willow
8:30 p.m. | $10-$12
@ The Demo
8:30 p.m. | $10-$12
The singer-songwriter couple of Josh and Nicole Johnson made their first appearance on Season 1 of The Voice. They didn't make the cut, but that surely didn't stop 'em from singing their sweet songs. (MS)

Pokey Lafarge Album Release
w/ The Loot Rock Gang, Mariachi Los Compadres
@ Casa Loma Ballroom
8 p.m. | $12-$18
Pokey brings it on home and does it in a big way with the release of his new self-titled album, out on Jack White's label Third Man Records. Get a preview of what's to come with this recent performance and interview on NPR. (MS)

Your comment about the King of Mic Tour is very rude and unnecessary! I went to the show, it was a fun night out.

You seem to have also forgotten Limp Bizkit. Surely an oversight.

Randy Jackson (of ZEBRA) joins a full rock band bringing the Music of Pink Floyd with the SLSO at Powell Hall...thanks, Thee Lovingcup!

You absolutely missed Pink Floyd SLSO concert at Powell Hall on Saturday. There is also music of Queen tonight (Friday).
