Joshua Loyal, the owner/manager/promoter of the 2720 Cherokee Performing Arts Center (2700 Cherokee Street; 314-875-0233), fired off a mean teaser through his Facebook feed on Wednesday:

"Who is ready for GOBLIN to come to STL?"

While fans of the Italian progressive band shot back with an urgent "yes," Loyal responded quick with only a "maybe!" The talent-buyer teased a possible Kickstarter, which hinted at Goblin's hefty booking fee. Goblin's pushing its 41st year as a band, and the imminent Autumn trek of North America stands as the first in the group's history. Bringing a theatrical prog-rock band out of Europe isn't so easy, it seems.

Goblin might be best known for its soundtrack work in many films, including Suspiria and Dawn of the Dead, but its live shows are legendary. Informed by the King Crimson and Yes that came first, Goblin's dense sound comes from soundtrack arrangements. The band builds an aural set piece and peppers in an otherwise risky use of abrasive sounds. The songs feel truly gothic, lacking frills and obnoxious gestures.

Although there's no guarantee that 2720 Cherokee will house Goblin this Fall, Loyal's language certainly alludes to negotiations in progress. Apop Records owner Tiffany Minx spread the news on social media last night, urging for regional weirdos and prog-nerds alike to voice their fandom.

Looking at the current schedule, there's a nice little hole between the band's Chicago and Denver dates on October 14. Although I'm sure Goblin would like a day to enjoy middle-America's classic cuisine, our collective voice might urge Loyal to make an offer that Goblin just can't refuse. Fingers are crossed.

If you're privy to partake in theatrical Italian progressive rock, blast the venue's Facebook page and share your support.
