R.I.P. The Rage Cage (2009-2014)
It happened on Tuesday morning, around 10 a.m. Kentucky Knife Fight vocalist Jason Holler had gone to walk his dogs at approximately 9:15 in the morning; when he returned from that, his van was still parked where it belonged, on the 3200 block of Indiana Avenue. This was the last time the vehicle was seen alive.

Holler then left to run an errand, which took about an hour. "By the time I got back it was gone," he says ruefully. "Makes me think he or they were waiting for me to leave, which is a creepy thing to consider."

In a case of the most perfectly horrible timing, KKF has had plans to leave for tour today, Friday, for months now. At first the van's disappearance did not ring any alarms. "I had spoken with one of my other bandmates the night before and he mentioned possibly taking it to the shop to get the heater looked at," Holler explains. "I just assumed he took it. It wasn't until later on that I realized he hadn't, and my other bandmates hadn't either. I double-checked with city towing, but they didn't have it."

The vehicle, affectionately nicknamed "the Rage Cage" by Holler and his band, was stolen in broad daylight, despite the fact it was equipped with the Club to prevent theft. There was no evidence of a broken window, even though it had been locked when parked. "Pretty ballsy," Holler says. "Luckily there was not much gear inside, just a couple guitar stands and one mic stand."

The band put out the call Tuesday afternoon, as soon as Holler realized what had happened, asking that anyone who sees the van to please get in touch ASAP. Holler reported the incident to the police and crossed his fingers. "Vans are stolen often in St. Louis," he said then. "They are used to perpetrate other crimes. I'm just hoping whenever it's abandoned that it's not all tore up."

unbelievable.  i was unaware of this dumb law, but i think this article (and help from sites like NextDoor) is going to open lots of peoples' eyes about the matter!  it's too bad it had to happen to St. Louis' best band.  if there's a fund raising event, i'm sure many people will attend and show their generosity!

It used to be any vehicle 25 years or older didn't need a title to scrap it but you had to give them a bill of sale.

The scrap yards are in on this, I lost my chevy Astro van a few years back, called the Police, reported stolen, it showed up two days later in a scrap yards parking lot, parts missing, side door gone, and no Police officer saw a thing, sitting right next to a major road travelled by the PD often ....scrappers need to be beat down, closed and there business sold for scrap with them in it...

First of all, I think it is a travesty that people will "like" this page JUST to make negative comments regarding staff and writers. My message to you: If you think you can do it better, then DO IT! Secondly, it is unfortunate that no car is safe anymore. There are ways to keep this from happening to yours, and cheaply I might add. The Club- they still sell them and THEY WORK. A dog does wonders, too. They can hear someone coming long before thieves break the first window. My little schnauzer has chased off a few people trying to steal gas from my van. ( Yep! Caught the bastards in the act! ) I think they need to reverse the law that says you can license any piece of junk that runs!! I drive a lot and I have seen some cars that should not even be on the road let alone with a human being in them. And finally, if a junkyard owner is dumb enough to accept a vehicle without the title, then they should be penalized, especially if the car is reported stolen and had a police report made on it. Essentially they are tampering with evidence. Doesn't take a rocket science education to figure this crap out, people.

A 10 year old car is not that old! Mine is from '02 and is perfect condition. This new rule is messed up!

No car regardless of age should change ownership without proper title registration! Did the car thieves lobby for this..SMDH.. Too bad we can't see the future when electing these ....well, dumb asses seems to fit!

Your headline mentions some law, but your article does not. Care to mention who's idea it was, when that passed, and who owes KKF a van?

This is not a city law, but a state law.

I had an old pickup stolen. I imagine it met the same fate.

Aren't you required to show a state ID to turn something like that in to a scrap yard? And if so is the scrap yard required to keep it on file? To me it shouldn't be much different than taking something to a pawn shop

My car is over 10 years old, and I'd be in big trouble if it was stolen. This is a bad, bad, bad idea.

Another piece of legislation from the dumb right wing nuts!!!!

Seems like at a minimum, the seller should have to complete a notarized bill of sale, but I just sold an old car my brother left when he moved out of the country. The scrapper paid cash, and there was no title or paperwork.

I would say they have a good case against the junkyard, considering how fast they crushed it, and the fact that it was towed...

You sure that's not driveable?

Emily K Lohrmann

"No longer driveable" is an understatement!! The scrap yard should def be held accountable. You better have some proof of ownership before you DESTROY something like that!

Thief takes hacksaw, sawzall or similar. Cuts through steering wheel. Pulls "The Club" through cut in steering wheel and throws it the fuck away. Thief proceeds with grand theft auto.

they question now should be why did the scrap yard take the van with NO title .....looks like the scrap yards should be buying a new van.
