Bluesweek Moves to Chesterfield Due to Financial Woes

Bluesweek will also partner with the Wildwood BBQ Bash for what will be known as the Bluesweek BBQ Blast. The 40-team barbecue competition will end with one skilled pitmaster winning a $10,000 prize. Only the Saturday headliner -- Devon Allman's Royal Southern Brotherhood -- has been announced.

While leaving the city wasn't the ideal choice, one side effect might be that bands and artists who rarely venture out of the city limits will get exposed to a different audience.

"It will be interesting to see what happens," say Kociela. "Our goal is to make this a more regional festival.

When I think of the blues, I always think of west county strip malls and applebee's

I blame the fact we don't have the Mizzou-Illini game at the fine that weekend anymore.

Great we are trying to open a Blues Museum in downtown....You would think that they would partner with this effort and their sponsors to ensure the festival stays downtown...me thinks someone dropped the ball on fundraising and took the easy way out.

^ lol - just terrible isn't it? You can walk down the street at night without looking over your shoulder or having someone begging you for money, streets are clean and the city is well manicured. Just terrible isn't it? So awful such a beautiful and well kept safe city should offer to host such an event. Would anyone like a little cheese with this whine? Good God. Everyone is bitching about a city offering to carry the festival on. Looks like Chesterfield isn't the one with the problem, everyone else seems to have the problem. It's funny to me, because there's a lot of money out here, and that money could keep this festival alive, but no one dares think about that now do they?

No it's just a horrible suburban strip mall wait land.

If you need a new place....Jefferson County would love to have you here. Come on down baby!

I am all for it. I just don't want to lose the festival. I would gladly pay a nominal fee just to keep the blues festival local and accessible. I am glad we have people willing to take on such a huge feat of putting this all together. Keep up the good work!

I'll have the blues after the dwi I would get driving back to civilization. Last I checked metro does not have a stop out there.

Make it regional by making it smaller? I'm not following this logic.

I'm sure it will be the last time they ever hold this festival. After this one time it Chesterfield, it's all over.

Everyone who is complaining should put their money where their complaints are. Perhaps you should find a way to raise the money it takes to hold a "free" concert because someone still has to pay for all the free things. Why do you assume that it's always "someone else's" duty to pay for it? And just for the record, I was born and raised in South City, so don't assume that I'm some spoiled, rich, uncultured snob. I learned that if I want something badly enough, I need to figure out a way to make it happen. Perhaps you should form a committee to help with the fundraising so that it can be held for free in Soldiers Memorial next year. How badly do you want it?

Y'know, I'm a proud St. Louisan, but I really don't have anything against Chesterfield. I don't think about Chesterfield. There's nothing out there to think about, except maybe a couple of outlet malls. And that's what's wrong with this decision to move the Bluesweek Festival to Chesterfield. They're going from a cultural oasis to a cultural desert on the idea that Chesterfieldians will pay to see what St. Louisans used to get for free. St. Louis Strassenfest (remember that one?) did the same thing. When was the last time anyone went to Strassenfest? Chesterfield - its where St. Louis Festivals go to die a slow, gradual death. Time for St. Louis to put together a new, better Blues Fest, I'm thinkin'.

Awe. All the crying. Is our grass too green and our crime rate too low for you to brave coming to Chesterfield?

Read the article. The promoter made this decision. Mike Kociela. He's been doing it 20 years, he wants to make it easier. He can't get enough sponsorship to make it free. Maybe the time is coming for other parties to take over the promotion of the event. There is no need to make character judgements about the citizens of city or suburbs. It's a money thing, it seems. I don't like the change. Eventually, attendance and response may force organizers to re-evaluate options. Maybe some people will be inspired to step up and say I want to help make this happen differently.

Wow. Why all the hate for Chesterfield? There is more than a mall there. Lots of support for the arts.

I am really excited!! Every year I want to go, but downtown is just too far of a drive but Chesterfield is a perfect location!!

Shane Presley

I happen to love the idea. More intimate setting, great sound quality there too. The people putting on Bluesweek even said "it's going to be quality over quantity" and thats for sure based on the comments I've been reading. I support the blues anywhere, just cause it's in Chesterfield doesn't mean it won't be great. Just be thankful we've got anything at all. They could've easily pulled the plug on the whole thing.

I hate Chesterfield!! I feel just a little more impoverished when I cross into that white collar, bland, republican haven. I will be skipping it.

The people of Chesterfield wouldn't know the blues if it hit them head on in their beamers and Cadillacs

Have the festival in Gator Flats or Gumbo instead.

I think I won't be going anymore. They'll have the worst turn out ever this year and won't be back next year. This could be the last one unless they pull their heads out of their urethras and have it Downtown!

It will be back in downtown next year.

Guess we'll see how it goes. Good chance I won't go this year since it isn't downtown. One of the cool things about going is because it is downtown. Not too excited to go to chesterfield. Plus, you can always sneak off and get cheaper drinks at the local bars around SM

Sounds like everyone in the city are being pretentious.

CPD is actually reasonable. It's Town and Country and Creve Coeur you have to worry about. And as a brown man, I like my suburb. It may be bland, but no one's getting raped, robbed, or selling crack.

Chesterfield has money & money talks. They probably would've had it in Ladue if all the super rich folks wouldn't complain of loud noises at 9pm haha

Downtown St. Louis contains the finest place for music festivals in the Country-the 5 venues and 3 levels of foyer Kiel Opera House. This is where the Blues Museum should have opened as an anchor tenant and where this festival should be held with no financial problems-a block from the largest ground transportation hub in the Region. No more festivals at Soldiers Memorial-this is abuse and mis-use. Chesterfield has Zero Blues history or heritage, zero. It belongs Downtown.

I walk down the street all the time without looking over my shoulder. Of course I am not one of those scared white people who is afraid to death of every black man aged 14-60 they see. Tell me about the knockout game next...

Chesterfield isn't a city. It's a parking lot.

MarxMarvelous

Of course it doesn't. If it did, blacks might find their way out there and they wouldn't want that. Hell, they moved out there to get away from all the dirty minorities and poor people.

Well your faggot ass prick cops will be profiling every person of color for one and since they are the ones who invented the blues (in response to having to deal with mouthy cunts like yourself I might add) I wouldn't expect many people who love this style of music to show up. Btw, nice shirt your dork husband is wearing in your fb pics, it really goes with your tombstone teeth and gobbler chin, you two are a really cute couple!!

Or maybe they just don't like someone calling it the "St. Louis" Bluesweek when it's not actually happening in St. Louis. Or maybe they don't want to drive 45 minutes to get there. Or maybe the name "Chesterfield" and everything it implies just doesn't really go with the blues.
