St. Louis' Hilariously Varied Reactions to this Year's Pointfest Lineup

poinfestbrah.jpg

You know, we here at RFT Music get a little jaded sometimes. We're so used to concert announcements clogging our inboxes that we just yawn when embargoes are up, and we're finally allowed to tell you about all the secret information we've been hoarding. That's why instead of reading stuff in black and white, it was neat to witness the Twitter reactions as Lux of 105.7 FM (The Point) announced the Pointfest 2014 lineup Monday afternoon.

And by "neat," we of course mean "hilarious." Watching (mostly) teenage tweeters scream rapturous declarations of love for their favorite bands or deride any and all announced bands as pieces of shit their dogs wouldn't eat was outstanding entertainment for an hour. This was some after-school special, Dawson's Creek-type stuff, with bad spelling and extraneous exclamation points as the My So-Called Life topper.

Below, we've collected priceless tweets about each band that @Lux1057 announced on Twitter, and in the order she announced them. To give you the full scope of OMG-I'M-GONNA-DIE-SO-MANY-FEELINGS that we experienced (and, OK, laughed at), we've got pro and con tweets for each band.

1) THE AIRBORNE TOXIC EVENT (@AIRBORNE_TOXIC):

2) AFI (@AFI):

3) THE OFFSPRING (@OFFSPRING):

4) CROSSES (@CROSSESMUSIC):

Continue for more angst.

I had an ex drag me to see Blue October once. I slept thru most of it.

Love all types of music but this lineup is a trainwreck.

I'm predicting there will not be another Pointfest (full day festival) after this one. Too many bands joining other touring festivals and the Point is clearly scraping together whatever they can find from bands who are available.

QOTSA will be worth it...And possibly AFI, even though they most likely won't do any pre-Sing The Sorrow stuff. But at least there's less butt rock.

Pointfest should be called Pointless. The lineups are getting lamer and lamer every time.

Do any of these bands ever play side shows while they're in town? I'd really like to see the Orwells but really would rather avoid Pointfest at all costs.

@RiverfrontTimes I'm glad you found what I said funny, but I'm not sure how I feel about this since my full name and picture are used...

I saw the Head and the Heart at the Blue Note last year and loved them, but would I sit outside all day and put up with the Riverport traffic to see them? Meh.

The line up isn't even worth the cheap $29 tickets ...

Why isn't Tool on the lineup?! Why can't we all live in the 90's and early 00's forever?! Because those bands are WAY past their prime. Passé.

Point fans that love Breaking Ben, 3 Days Grace, etc.. Saying that this is a pussfest? None of you have ever heard heavy music.

Thing is KPNT doesn't even play most of these bands on a regular basis. They play the shit out of Rage Aginst the Machine almost trying to will them back together...ain't happening. I don't hate on the line up just wish it was indicative of what they play on their station. So many times I see KPNT at a show and think, when is the last time they even played this band on their station. KCRQ in Kansas City does it right but KPNT is turning to a shit station playing nothing but drivel now a days. A cross between Octane and what the Point has become would be GREAT.

@roosterjackson We understand it, though. Hard to remember it's a public network when you're talking to your friends or are young.

@LUX1057 Crosses = rad. Great job on a music-forward lineup! Also, livetweeting's the way to go - way better than the old news release days!

What? Tool wouldn't be caught dead playing at a pointfest, you have to be joking.

@RiverfrontTimes I would think rock fans should at least appreciate that this lineup is diff than ptfest's usual trends for the last few yrs

@RiverfrontTimes also the guy who's mad that its turned into an alternative festival when the point's tag line is 'everything alternative'

@AMBabka right? I just saw them at Pop's a month ago maybe, but Chino can do no wrong in my eyes! Loved the article so funny!

@AMBabka @LUX1057 people don't understand how hard things like this are to book. This is a great diverse lineup, let them go to mayhem.

@LUX1057 Aww, thank you. People are silly. :) But I seriously think everyone will realize how diverse this year's lineup is.
