Search Parties Album Release - Friday, July 11 @ The Firebird.
This weekend, head to the Firebird to see the band that RFT readers voted the best new band of 2014, Search Parties, as it releases a brand new EP. Little Big Bangs also have a release ready to drop this Friday at Los Punk. For even more excitement in your life, head to Utopia Studios as it hosts its inaugural show in the newly dubbed concert space, the Mecca. More recommendations await in this edition of weekend best bets.

Friday (July 11):

Braid
w/ Pity Sex, Signals Midwest
@ Fubar
8 p.m. | $15
Braid formed in Urbana, Illinois in the early '90s and were on and off in the naughts. Recently, the emo pioneers signed to Topshelf Records. This tour promotes its newest release since 2011, No Coast. Head to Vintage Vinyl at 5 p.m. to see a free acoustic performance.

Little Big Bangs Tape Release
w/ Brother Gruesome, Crazy XXX Girlfriend
@ Los Punk
9 p.m. | $5
Little Big Bangs's latest release comes out on cassette via local label Eat Tapes. On the flip side, catch Brother Gruesome, a grungy duo from Oklahoma City. Hear them here.

Journey
w/ Steve Miller Band, Tower of Power
@ Verizon Wireless Amphitheater
7:30 p.m. | $29.50-$151
There's nothing we can tell you that this ridiculous video doesn't -- very explicitly -- already.

SOJA
w/ Trevor Hall
@ The Pageant
8 p.m. | $22.50-$27
Formerly known as Soliders of Jah Army, SOJA has amassed quite the following. This show will fill the floor with reggae fanatics, no doubt.

Also on Friday, check out Search Parties' Album Release and Phox at Blueberry Hill. Click the links to read more about the performers via previews.

The owners of the Blues, who control Kiel Opera House, are booking and hosting 200-300 weddings, banquets, private and corporate events, book signings denying the presentation of music in the great main theater. This is in violation of federal anti trust laws by restraining the trade of the opera house to protect the Fox Theater, which is not as good and never will be, and to protect the stupid fear by the hockey arena the opera house could hurt it.

It is the no-compete leases and restrictions in the St. Louis entertainment industry that killed it, killed its downtown, killed it as a destination and killed it as a center for music arts and culture.

The same perps, along with the zoo and museums are squeezing down the MUNY and they too have been told to go into the special events business.  so some beautiful nights in September will be denied to 9,000 paid, while preferred special interests hold their 'events' at the MUNY.
