"Smooth" Is the Greatest Song of All Time

A great moment in music history.

This summer marks the fifteen-year anniversary of the greatest song of all time. I KNOW. I couldn't believe it either, but fifteen years have come and gone since the first time you heard "Smooth" by Santana, featuring Rob Thomas. FIFTEEN. YEARS. CAN YOU EVEN BELIEVE THAT!?

"Smooth" is a song that has transcended both time and space. Santana's guitar riffs. The lyrics. Rob Thomas' hair. It's hard to believe that the heavens smiled upon us and gave us this great gift. Santana has worked with more than his fair share of music stars throughout the years, but "Smooth" remains one of the guitarist's best collaborations. But why? Why is this the greatest song of all time? I'm glad you asked. I'll tell you.

Do you hear that? Of course you don't because it's a GIF, but I know in your head you can hear those first few guitar notes. You're just sitting there living life, and BAM. You hear those notes and you know. It's "Smooth," and it's time to dance. An interesting thing happens when a human experiences the first few notes of this song. Dance moves become better. Happiness becomes happier. Friendships become stronger. We all already know the lyrics, but there is only one man who can deliver them properly unto the world. Sing to us, Rob.

"MAN, IT'S A HOT ONE" How is this literally the most relevant lyric of all time? The first five words of this song are "MAN, IT'S A HOT ONE." JUST THINK ABOUT THAT. Rob Thomas is a weatherman and also a genius.

THERE IS SO MUCH HAPPENING HERE. Rob Thomas, what is your HAIR?

THOSE EARRINGS.

THAT. SHIRT.

Where on earth did you get that shirt?

"MY SPANISH HARLEM MONA LISA."

I WANT TO BE A SPANISH HARLEM MONA LISA.

Let's be real: every Santana song slaps. He is having so much fun and makes you wish you were having as much fun as he is. This music video was shot in Harlem. I could get there by plane but common logic tells me that Carlos Santana will not be standing there waiting for me with his band. TRUST ME, I ALREADY THOUGHT ABOUT GOING THERE. If anyone is willing to re-create this video just let me know. It's my life's dream.

What kind of 20 something year old person is writing now for the Riverfront Times and spewing this crap ....since when do the 20 something year olds.... With literally no life experience, know what the greatest song of all time is?? The person writing can't possibly be any older than twenty somethings or they would have better and advanced taste by now.... Plain and simple fact....just sayin. There are songs in every genre that are better than Smooth.... Although it is a good song,,, too many to list here that far out rank it.

What i get from this article as follows: Santana is an undeniable classic in the hallowed halls of rock guitaristry, and the author of this article has the hots for Rob Thomas (no accounting for taste...). So, this makes the title declaration of the article more tongue-in-cheek than authoritative, Since there is no breakdown of the musicality here. Add to that, the article is SOOOOO impressive that it's comments section had been spammed by Kerry Goad. *sigh* I remember when RFT's parent company really did stand for alternative press, producing interesting content. Too many hacks are getting bylines these days...

DEAR RFT - This is what you propose ? Are you serious.. I mean it was okay but overplayed.. get some new writers - or at least other writers to appeal to a broader audience.. Matchbox 20 is soo 15 years ago - and doesnt need to be re visited ~
