Blues Win 3-2 Over Dallas Stars in Preseason Opener

Categories: Blues

The Blues won last night in the first pre-season game of 2008, by a score of 3-2 to the Dallas Stars.

Andy McDonald, Lee Stempniak and Brad Boyes all had a goal and an assist in the win, played at home at the Scottrade.

So what?

After last season's comeback year (at least in terms of attendance and media coverage), the big question this season is whether 2008-09 will be a continuation of the Blues' rebuilding effort or a step down into the NHL's soggy cellar.

Even the smell of playoff contention would justify the efforts of John Davidson and likely help head coach Andy Murray keep his job. Though it's only September, give us your gut feelings.

Blues fans, a question for you die-hard, sometimes-mulleted masses: Will the Blues make playoffs? Why?

At this early stage, it's a crapshoot as to whether it'll happen. The news last night that the heralded Erik Johnson is possibly out for the season is a rough blow. Then there's the fact that Blues management over the off-season couldn't land a big-name free-agent. And of course, there's those other Western Conference teams the Blues must contend with for a playoff spot.

Take a stab at it.
