My New Favorite Tennis Player
|What a player.|
So when I tell you I have a new favorite tennis player, and that she just happens to be a woman, you can rest assured I appreciate her only for her gifts on the court, and that neither her gender nor her physical appearance has made any sort of impression on me whatsoever.
My new favorite tennis player is Caroline Wozniacki, and she's a really good at playing tennis. And no matter what you might think, no, I do not have a crush on her.
You may not be all that familiar with Ms. Wozniacki just yet, but you will be soon. Especially if I have anything to do with it. See, she just happens to be the woman who put an end to the feel-good story of the U.S. Open, that being the historic run of seventeen-year-old phenom Melanie Oudin.
After the match Ms. Wozniacki had the following to say to the crowd (which had been rather obviously rooting for the American Oudin):
"I'm sorry I won against Melanie today. I know many of you guys wanted her to win, but hopefully I won many of your guys' hearts, and you'll be cheering for me in my next match."Honestly, how can you not love someone like that? She actually apologizes to the crowd for ruining their fun. Do you think Albert Pujols apologized to the Houston fans after he ruined Brad Lidge? No. No, he did not. But this girl, she beats your hero, says she's sorry and then invites you to cheer for her instead.
Ms. Wozniacki is currently ranked 8th in the world (and number 1 in my heart, because she's a very skilled athlete), and you have to think she'll be moving up a bit more after her strong showing here in the U.S. Open. I for one congratulate her on her performance, and also say how much I respect her as an athlete about whose looks I know absolutely nothing. Seriously. Stop laughing.
That's just the kind of guy I am.
And yes, for the record, I am ashamed of myself for certain things that may or may not have happened yesterday while I was watching the tennis match.
