The Remains of Anthony Reyes Update

What can I say? I'm a sucker for punishment. So in the spirit of twisting the knife just a hair more -- and also because there is actual news to report -- I present to you the Remains of Anthony Reyes Watch

Why can't I quit you, Anthony?

Anthony Reyes: Relieved to be Out of St. Louis

I was just thinking to myself the other day, "You know, we haven't had an Anthony Reyes Update in damn near forever, it seems." Then, lo and behold, what should happen across my web browser? Oh wonder of wonders! Ladies and gentlemen, we have some fresh Anthony news.

Well, that's not exactly accurate. What we have is less news than it is just more fodder for endless speculation, debate, and argument. Which really, when you think about it, is probably better than actual, hard, factual news anyway, isn't it?

Reyes recently sat down with David Laurila of Baseball Prospectus for a quick little interview. They spoke of many things, among them shoes, ships, sealing wax, and four seam fastballs. Some of the most pertinent highlights:

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is a black day here at The Rundown. I come before you with my hat in my hand and a heavy heart.

Anthony Reyes Update

Last week, I promised you all a much meatier Anthony Reyes Watch. I promised you that we would have two starts from Anthony to talk about. Well, it turns out that I'm a liar.

Anthony Reyes Update

It's that time again! Time for the moment you've waited for all week, the moment when all your questions (or at least your ex-Cardinal pitcher questions), will be answered.

It's time again for the Anthony Reyes Watch.

Once again this week, we're faced with a rather trim week for the ARW, but that's never stopped us before, now has it?

Anthony Reyes Watch

Do you hear that? What can that possibly be?

I'll tell you what it is. It's the sound of the Anthony Reyes Watch rushing toward us, coming to blow apart all of our little lives like so much kindling. What new age does this foretell? Be this a harbinger of madness or salvation? Only time, and the Watch, shall tell.

Unfortunately, the actual Anthony Reyes Watch this week can't quite live up to the excitement of that intro. I apologize if I got your hopes up unnecessarily.

Reyes has only made one start since I last updated you on his progress; a start against the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night. Let's go to the tape (or the box score, as the case may be):

Anthony Reyes Update

I know that I've spoken before here of my appreciation for the work of one Mr. Anthony Reyes.

I was all kinds of impressed with him when he came up, and it broke my heart to watch him struggle. It was especially frustrating to watch, considering that I, and many others, felt that he was being badly mishandled by the Cardinals' coaching staff, rather than being put into a position to succeed.

With all of that in mind, I would like to announce a new weekly segment here at The Rundown. We're going to call it the Anthony Reyes Watch. I know, it's not a very original or creative title, but I couldn't think of anything more clever. So, this is what we've got.
